My Review:
Rua is a fast paced and intriguing story with a beautiful cover. The summary does not reveal much so I am dong this review as spoiler free as possible.
Celeste has never stayed long enough in one place to make many friends or really settle. Her father is constantly traveling so they all move from town to town. When Celeste arrives at Kansas strange things start happening, like the black birds. I hated this part of the story - Not because it was bad, but because they scare me. There was this legend my brothers told me when I was little that had many black birds in it, since then I am afraid of them. Even thought the black birds in Rua seemed threatening in the beginning, they really weren't. I still got nightmares though (Not joking). Black birds aside, things are definitely odd. And on her seventeenth birthday Celeste discovers that her life will never be the same, what's happening around her and just how powerful she is.
She does not go through this alone though, she has a gay best friend with her - Tink - He was by far my favorite character in the book! Funny, smart and a Wicca! Which was really cool, because I've heard a few things about the religion, and it was great and original to meet a character that was part of it. He got to be a big part of the story and Celeste's life. Which is something that usually doesn't happen in paranormal/fantasy books. The friend is usually on the sidelines and such, I liked that Tink was a part of it and could actually help. He was a great support for Celeste.
Speaking of great guys, we have Rylan, whom I didn't really like in the beginning... I really wasn't feeling the chemistry. Further into the book though, I started to swoon after him. He was smart, hot, patient and protective or Celeste.
Rua was overall a very magical and original book. Great characters and a unique plot (at least I had never read anything similar) It was really fast paced - which was sort of good/sort of bad - maybe there could've been a bit more detail and if could've been a bit longer, but other than that I really enjoyed Rua (except for the black birds, of course x) ). And it seems there will be a sequel! cannot wait for it! If you like Paranormal/Fantasy this book is a must read! A great debut!
