Here's the thing, for every book I read I buy like 10 more and my wallet has been suffering from this. There's also the fact that I have no more space in my shelves, and that I have a To-Be-Read pile of over 100 books - and I am not counting the Kindle Books.
I have seen bloggers compromise to reading at least 5 books before they buy more, and I have been one of those blogger to compromise to that, always failing to do so, of course.
What is this exactly? This? This is me making it official. This is my pledge. This is the promise of a determined blogger with book buying issues admitting her problem, suffering over her solution, but committed to it. Indeed, I want to cry every time I think of this pledge, because I am a really really slow reader, I'll just suck it up then.
The First Step - admitting you have a problem.
Hello, my name is Jude and I am a book buying addict.
There, that wasn't so hard.
Do you have a problem as well?
If you do, feel free to join me. Grab the badge, place it on your blog, make the pledge and compromise! and then of course you can also come cry with me.
The Pledge
I will not buy any more books until and only until I have read 5 books in my current TBR Pile.
And once I do finish reading my 5 books, I cannot buy more than another 5 books.
Exceptions: Gift Cards - if you get one, go spend it. If it's your birthday - Congrats! Christmas. And just in case there's doubt here - it's ok to get free books and/or obtain them through book tours, you can be guilt free for making your TBR even bigger.
Wish me luck and if you're joining, I wish you luck as well :)
We'll stay strong

ReplyDeleteOh my Goodness! Totally joining!I was going to be doing this this year anyway, but now that you've made an "official" challenge out of it, I'm joining your pledge!
ReplyDeleteI, Mandy (The Romance Bookie), have a book buying addiction!
Thanks Jude!:)
Oh, gods, good luck with this!
ReplyDeleteYou know, it always works to hide the money & (try) forget about it. Besides, once you (accidentally) find it, the feeling is compared with a mini victory.
That.
Or I'm just too stingy, IDK.
Stay strong, girl!
Wait, what is the problem? They are just books, right?
ReplyDeleteSo my front room is a fiction library (as in 9, yes NINE, over-stuffed bookcases) and the "spare" room got turned into the "office" due to lack of use- which of course I lined in bookcases for the non-fiction and classics, children's, etc.
Addiction- well, yes-when I can't fall asleep without reading first? And who leaves the house without a book, just in case? Right? (My In-Laws don't understand me At All.)
As for a buying addiction...am I suppose to pass up $1 days at my trade-in bookstore? Or 1/2 price at the second hand store ($1 hardbacks & 50 cent paperbacks)? And the free books on amazon kindle? I will get around to those books, really...
Yes, I-Vicky- have a book buying addiction!
Reading 5 books is not the problem. I do twice that in a week. It's not buying 2 or 3 bags of books at a time when out. And I find them on sale, so I can't even complain about the cost TOO much (it does still add up).
These is just so much out there...
It's not normal to fall asleep without read first, or leaving the house without at least one book, nope, not normal.
DeleteWow, I wish I could read that many, and yes, there is just so much out there, waiting to be discovered, waiting to be bought... *sigh*
Haha, I admit that I have a book buying addiction (and I don't have any room left) but I don't feel ashamed by it. Everybody has a hobby and when I look at my book collection, I feel proud and happy. But great goal and I hope that you can stick to your plan! :) Good luck!
ReplyDeleteMel@thedailyprophecy.
Well, I think we ALL have that problem! At least you are strong enough to admit it and TRY (and now pledge) to FIX the issue!!
ReplyDeletei wish you Great luck!!! :)
