Introducing Book Talk. Book reviews are the main posts in my blog, but as many of you may know, I am a slow reader, and a slow reviewer - meaning it takes me week after I've finished a book to actually write a review. So I though:
"How can I fill those awkward spaces between starting/reading/finishing a book until I actually review it? Well, you could actually talk about the books your reading." I'm brilliant <--Sarcasm.
Tadaaaa! Book Talk was born! I know this isn't he most original thing in the world, but I did search for a similar feature and the closest I could find was Teaser Tuesday, and though I will probably show teasers, I don't want to be limited to them. This will be like adding status updates on book on Goodreads, without a limited amount of words you can use. Let's talk book! :)
***********
This week I'm reading
Starglass by Phoebe North. When I started reading this one I was having a really hard time getting into the story, and I am still not completely into the story and the life inside the Asherah. It took 100 pages for the plot to appear, but it has potential. Hopefully things will pick up. Also, this was an e-galley that I downloaded way too soon and when I was in school (bad decision). I didn't get a chance to read it and yesterday it expired. I was in the middle of a panic attack when I somehow managed to get it again - I feel like I cheated the system, but I really am not sure of what or how I did it, I just got it again and I have it for 60 more days :D!
Held by Edeet Ravel. I had just finished Stolen by Lucy Christopher and I was so hangover with the story, I didn't want to move on and I just wanted more, so I stumbled upon this book with a similar storyline and Oh for freaks sake. It's bad, it is so so bad. I know many people liked it, my blogging BFF included. But no, I just CAN'T. The story has a lot of potential but the writing style is just NO. STAPH. I'm finding things to be ridiculous and I'm laughing so much when this is clearly not a funny story. I'm cringing. CRINGING. Literally, it's too painful to read through the awkward writing style, so much that I don't think I'll finish the book, but I also don't want to leave it as a DNF. Oh the dilemma -.-
And here's one of my status updates of the book on Goodreads - I still can't get over it. I CAN'T.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME - The girl 'is being held as ransom for a prisoner exchange' and her captor wants a picture to show the world she's alive.
"Is this photo for the newspapers?"
"Yes"
"Can you take a few, so I can choose the best one?"
IF YOUR CAPTOR WANTS A PICTURE, YOU DON'T ASK THAT. and the of course she smiles at the camera.
"Don't smile, please" Not being allowed to smile made me even angrier
Hey Guys! Look! I'm Kidnapped!
It sounds like you're currently in a book slump... that little passage from Held made me die a little on the inside. Like what the hell? I mean girls can be shallow but honestly, I can't think of a single person who would say that if they were kidnapped? Get real people. LOL.
ReplyDeleteHaha I thought Held was great but the girl was kind of weird. She just had major Stockholm Syndrome I think! I've been trying to find another book as good as Stolen but it is impossible. You could try The Breakaway by Michelle D. Argyle and Wanted by Amanda Lance.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading Comfort Food by Kitty Thomas and it's like the adult version of Stolen. I love it! I'll have to check out Held because like you I lurve these stories! I also look forward to Starglass! It sounds great!
