I Am A Book Buying Addict

Here's the thing, for every book I read I buy like 10 more and my wallet has been suffering from this. There's also the fact that I have no more space in my shelves, and that I have a To-Be-Read pile of over 100 books - and I am not counting the Kindle Books.

I have seen bloggers compromise to reading at least 5 books before they buy more, and I have been one of those blogger to compromise to that, always failing to do so, of course. 

What is this exactly? This? This is me making it official. This is my pledge. This is the promise of a determined blogger with book buying issues admitting her problem, suffering over her solution, but committed to it. Indeed, I want to cry every time I think of this pledge, because I am a really really slow reader, I'll just suck it up then.

The First Step - admitting you have a problem.

The Pledge

I will not buy any more books until and only until I have read 5 books in my current TBR Pile.

And once I do finish reading my 5 books, I cannot buy more than another 5 books. 

Exceptions: Gift Cards - if you get one, go spend it. If it's your birthday - Congrats! Christmas. And just in case there's doubt here - it's ok to get free books and/or obtain them through book tours, you can be guilt free for making your TBR even bigger.

Hello 2013 :)

2012 was a really really busy year! School really took most of my time, and what they say about college only getting harder? True. Not difficult, don't get me wrong, but the assignments and activities now take more time and effort. I literally spend one month without even reading a magazine.

As for books, on 2011 I read the fabulous amount of 35 books (Yeah.. I'm a slow reader). On 2012 the exorbitant amount of 65! Yay me! Now, 2013, I'm taking the reading thing to new heights *drum roll* 80 books, minimum. I really really want to take it as far as 95-100, but I'll do it baby steps style.

 

Le Goals

*Will not buy books until I have finished at least 5 pending in my TBR.

*Be organized with blogging/club.

*Make time for reading while I'm in school at all costs.

*Will not procrastinate with anything school related - I swear with my life on this one.

*Will not sign up for blog tours during finals.

*Make vlogs more often

*Get a free pass should I fail to achieve any of this goal - just in case.

Goals expiration date: February Not this time.

(The picture of the cover looks really plain, but wow, once you actually have the book in your hands... I think it's the prettiest book I have ever seen, the way it shines with the light, how every color comes to life! It's just beautiful.)

 

Best Books I've read in 2012

This is the second time I join the Top 10 of 2012 event, and one would think it gets easier to pick your favorites - it doesn't. Making this list and choosing the order was extremely hard, and I still feel like crying over certain books I wasn't able to mention but, I made it. 

Here it is, My top 10 Best Books I've read in 2012

1- Wake by Abria Mattina. Insanely long and insanely good. Amazing characters, amazing story. There is absolutely nothing else I could've asked for from this book. A must read.

2- This is Not A Test by Courtney Summers. Her best book to date. If you haven't read anything from Courtney Summers then.... O_O

3- Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire. Yes, I am a Beautiful Disaster fangirl. I could re-read and re-read and re-read this book forever and never get tired :3

4- Cut by Patricia McCormick. This book was so simple and so short, but right to the point. It was realistic and straightforward. A real gem, and a must read for anyone who wants to understand self-harm or has has troubles with it.

5- Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clara. Oh. My. God. Felt ALL the feelings here, even better than Clockwork Angel. Just... Wow, I love this series ten times more than The Mortal Instruments.

6- Graffiti Moon by Cath Crowley. This is an excellent novel, and if I ever write something, I can only hope it'll be as good as this one. Must read for anyone.

7- Easy by Tammara Webber. Best New Adult/Young Adult Contemporary Romance I've read to date. It was fantastic. Highly recommend for anyone that likes this genre.

8- Slammed and Point of Retreat by Colleen Hoover. Yes, both count as one - don't judge me. These stories were just so... beautiful, and heart-warmers, and... *sigh*

9- First Comes Love by Katie Kacvinsky. Like I said in my review, not an epic love story, but I got so much out of this novel. It shall always have a special place in my heart.

10- Painted Blind by Michelle A. Hansen. I really think this one deserves a place in the Top 10, it wasn't lifechanging or anything but it was so surprising, such an adventure, romance, everything. It wasn't what I had in mind, it was 100 times better. An intense, fun and adventurous novel.

My Review:

When I first started reading Impossible I thought, wow, the story is moving so quickly! Then I realized that no, the pace was good, I was just devouring it. I really felt as if it was a really short story, I just sat down to read and in a blink of an eye I was 50% into the book.

When I first read the summary I thought it was going to be your typical blond-girl fall for goth-guy, but once you start to get into the story, you start to find things that really sets it apart from other stories that could be similar. For one, I think Komal Lewis - author - handled beautifully the bullying and school-pressure issues in this novel. She made the book somehow light, funny and really entertaining, but still brought up deep topics and it made you realize just how desperate one can be to fit in. 

Impossible has two contrasting main characters, that really, deep down at heart are not so different at all; they both miss and care for each other. Following them through the novel was a joy. Ashton was a bit dramatic at times, and I was also constantly wanting to show her a mirror, so she could she that she was making the same mistakes she was judging, but luckily she never got to the point of being seriously annoying, which I think was mainly thanks to the alternative points of view. Luca's head was much more, let's say 'sane' than Ashton's, but just as fun.

Impossible really couldn't have arrived at a better time for me. After school stress and busy days, Impossible was so refreshing, light yet meaningful and cute. A quick read that I'd really recommend for anyone who wants something nice and fresh :)

Komal Lewis is an author who writes both Young Adult and Adult novels in the Contemporary and Fantasy genres. Her debut novel IMPOSSIBLE is a Young Adult Contemporary Romance about a girl who will do anything to become popular, and the rocker boy-next-door.
