Why?

Because of reasons! Just read that summary, I think this is currently the book I am most exited for. It sort of reminds me of Angelfall by Susan Ee and I just hope it's as good as it sounds!

Darren had a hard time concentrating. He wanted to reach out and touch Samantha and make sure she was real. Her handshake had been real enough. At one point during class, she slumped down and her hair spilled across his desk. It was beautiful. He inched a finger forward and picked up a few strands, letting them fall through his fingers. It was silky and smooth, and he could smell the subtle fragrance of her shampoo. The hair’s sheen caught the light at certain angles causing it to glint off random strands. He moved his head into various positions, watching the glint change from one spot to another. As he obsessed over the way the light played with her hair, he had a sudden feeling overtake him and turned guiltily toward Mike. 

Sure enough his friend was watching him, his eyebrows raised in a dramatic expression. He pointed at Darren and then at Samantha, while puckering up with kissy lips. Darren retracted his hand quickly, sat back in his seat, and felt his face burn. He stared at the textbook with absolutely no idea where the class was.

            When the bell rang, the students hopped up, quickly heading for the door. Samantha turned to Darren and Mike. “It was nice meeting you. Maybe we’ll have some more classes together.”

            They both waved and watched her leave.

            “What was the deal with the hair touchy thing?” Mike grinned at his friend. “I thought you had a girlfriend.”

            “I had to make sure she was real.” Darren knew it sounded stupid, but it just came out.

            Mike chuckled. “Well, was she? She looked pretty real to me. How’d she feel?”

            “She’s real.” 

            As they left class, Mike continued to snicker. “Dude, I haven’t seen you this weirded out over a girl ever. Are you a bit smitten by any chance?”

            “Smitten?” 

            “Yeah, you know, got the hots for, twitterpated, in love, lust, whatever?”

            Darren sighed. “I’ll see you at lunch.” He headed down the hall to his second period class. 

            Mike laughed and headed in the other direction, shaking his head. “Yep, he’s in trouble.”

My Review:
Re-tellings. I don't usually like them. Why? Because as I've experienced with different books (also movies) sometimes authors want to make sure their story really follows the original, and they end up messing it up; making it feel too forceful, losing that natural flow and sometimes making them plain ridiculous. That is part of the reason why I didn't want to read Cinder. I remember when it just came out and it was on Netgalley, I just thought 'NO, I'm not reading that, I mean, Cyborg Cinderella? What?.... um NO.' Yeah... I would just love to slap old me for thinking that.

The thing that made Cinder so so incredibly good was that Marissa Meyer took the story of Cinderella and really made it her own, avoiding what I just previously mentioned. She took liberties, she wasn't afraid to change things, she basically took the essence of Cinderella's story and applied it to her book, which worked out perfectly.

Cinder was such a fun story to read - Note: Fun, not funny, though of course there were some amusing parts, but it was all just so much  fun: thrilling, interesting and also predictable but I really liked watching things unravel. I just really enjoyed Cinder, it had been a while since I liked a book this much - without it being emotionally draining or a simple chick-lit. This book was just the perfect balance of everything and I would not hesitate in recommending it to anyone, a must read :D!

Here’s something you may not know about me. I love YA literature. In fact, I’m a little obsessed with it. Okay, maybe that wasn’t such a big surprise, but I bet you don’t know what else I love . . . Zombies! Uh huh, the flesh eating, mindless, walking corpses. Love em! I even wrote a novella, Our Own Worst Enemies, about the zombie apocalypse.

Like any good zombie fan, I’ve thought extensively about who I would want on my zombie apocalypse team. I have some very specific criteria and if you don’t fit it, sorry but you’re as good as un-dead chow. 

For today’s post, I thought I’d combine my two loves and share with you my zombie apocalypse team made up entire of characters from YA fiction. Here, in no particular order, are my head severing, brain bashing, arrow slinging, bullet seeking team (with one witch thrown in because, seriously, who doesn’t want a witch on their zombie team?).

1-Jace from Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare—With those runes that give him strength, speed, agility, stamina, and coordination, plus all that hardware (swords, daggers, not to mention seraph blades), I’m pretty sure the zombies are going down.

2- Four from Divergent by Veronica Roth – The guys can shoot like a pro, and when the bullets run out, he’s always got the knife throwing skill.

3- Aiden from the Covenant series by Jennifer Armentrout – I’d just like to see a shuffling zombie try to take on Aiden and all of his crazy ninja moves.

4- Valek from the Study series by Maria V. Snyder – I’m pretty sure he could kill an entire zombie herd before they even realize he’s there. 

5- Kayla from Darkness Falls by Jessica Sorensen – The girl kicks some serious vampire butt. Why not zombies?

6- Katniss from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins – Bow and Arrow. Enough said. (She’ll be my Daryl.) 

7- Kale from Touch By Jus Accardo—Even if his touch doesn’t turn zombies into dust in the wind, he’s still got all of those killer moves. Those things make it past the bullets, arrows, and knives… I want Kale as my next line of defense.

8- Deuce from Enclave by Ann Aguirre – Zombie slaying is kind of her thing. How many people can say they were actually trained to kill zombies. I’ll take her expertise thank you.

9- Hermione from Harry Potter by JK Rowling – Seriously, who wouldn’t want a witch on their zombie team?

10- Lucas from Temptation by Jamie Canosa (Cue shameless plug here.)— But there’s no one I’d rather be healed by.

                                                                                                                                    

Yeah, if these guys/girls were on my zombie apocalypse team, I could just kick back and relax. Sorry zombies, this girl is off the menu.
