Author Kimberley Johnson send e a copy of her book The Virgin Diaries for review and I just got it today :D!

              LOL, my brother wasn't around so I had to take the picture myself in the mirror. and the title looks backwards but its the book xD

and even better: it was SINGED!! and I also had a bookmark :DD!!!


She's the first author that sends me her book signed! and by both authors!

Why don't authors sing their books? - *little voice in my head* Maybe because most of the books you get are e-books? you moron! - *clearing throat* anyways, it was really exiting! and I even got a letter :D!


Even though I'm packed with books to read I couldn't help but start this one already! My review will be comming soon, probably this week at the rate I'm going!

Weird choice of book I know.... I was thinking about adding Thirteen Reasons Why but I just HATE that book. Seriously, I was so traumatized I swore I would never read a book that was similar, but I've read it 7 times now....

Standalone vs. Series: what's your stance?

 

Well, in YA paranormal fiction is almost IMPOSSIBLE to find standalone books which, in YA realistic fiction is usually the only thing you'll find. I really like it when in one books you get everything, beginning, middle and ending. I don't like series because sometimes, from the moment I finish book one to the moment book two comes out, I usually already forgot the details of the series and lost that need of the books. Still like them, but I don't have that hunger for them anymore. If the whole series is finished then I'm in. Also, I don't like in series when you can just tell that the authors are making things  up to keep it going. For example: The House Of Night Series, I'm a HUGE fan of the series, but I really do think the authors went a little overboard with this where the story is going now :/

I'm more of a fan of Standalone.

But as always, it is hard to let go of characters or the story, so Series really are cool.

I don't know... I think I'm 60% Standalone and 40% Series ^^

I'll explain my Impresive Tag in a few moments. Allow me to gush about Ella first.

Well, in the constant exchange of e-mails I've been in with Ella, there is only one way I can describe the "vibe" I get from her: Motherly.

This may seem weird but she just makes me feel like a little kid ^^ - in a good way - Like in one e-mail, she was talking with me and a fellow Blogger and she refereed to us as "you girls" I just felt like I was 12 year sold all over again xD!

And now back to I.M.P.R.E.S.I.V.E. This Woman, this Amazing Woman manages 4 Blogs! - or at least 4that I know of! - and somehow manages to post frequently and, by the exchange in words I've been sharing with her, apparently she's also sane. This Blogs are definitely her babies and she's taking good care of 'em

OMG! She's 19 years old!! She Is 19 YEARS OLD!  and she just turned 19 this April 15th!! Holly starts with S and ends with HIT!

I'm seventeen and am a so much LAMER version of her, I want to study Digital Graphic Designer. She already is - maybe not in studies but she sure plays the part! I would like to survive managing my blog, the one I work on and my club, I barely make it alive - she has 4 Blogs that I KNOW of and she seems SANE! O.O

1.- In Between Writing and Reading what do you like to do?
The Clock Monkey: I love photography, but sadly, I haven't been taking a lot pf pictures lately. But that's about to change, since taking photographs is going to be an assignment at uni (I'm studying Film). I also love making blog designs. I made the design for my book blog, my Spanish book blog, Lauren Oliver's blog, DJ DeSmyter's blog, and I'm making others' now too!

2.- Convince me to join your Blog Twitter style, 140 letters or less. GO! 

TCM: Follow TCM, where you'll not only find reviews and interviews, but much more fun stuff!

3.- A place, a city, and a station

TCM:  Bed. London. Autumn.

My favorite place would be my bed. There I can read, write on my laptop, watch a film on tv, and sleep beside my dog Peyton.

A city... I haven't been to many places, so I'm gonna name one I'd like to go to one day: London. It's my dream to go there, and spend weeks just touring around it, doing typical londoner stuff, going to different bars and pubs, and of course, going everywhere HP-related.

And my favorite week has got to be Autumn. It's my birth month (different stations in the southern hemisphere, remember?), and I love the cold. It means I can spend more time in bed with a book and a cup of my favorite tea.

4.- I Just came out from under a rock. Book Recommendations please!!!

TCM: Well, definitely HP. It's my favourite book series, and JKR is my goddess. But apart from all of the known YA books, I'm a huge Isabel Allende fan. One of her books I love is De Amor y De Sombra (Of Love and Shadow), which tells the story of two young people falling in love in times of the Chilean dictatorship. I love her books, they're all full of historical facts, but they don't make the story boring, but rather, Isabel weaves her story through those facts, and writes amazing things.

5.- Where did the name Clock Monkey come from? 

TCM: It's a nickname my friends gave me years ago, that they took from an Argentine rock band's song. The Clock Monkey wasn't thought of as a book blog, but it sort of found its way to the book blogging world, and it's stayed there since.

6.- Favorite Time of the day and Favorite type of... Monkey?? ^^ 

TCM: Morning's my favourite time of day, because it's when I'm most alert. By afternoon, I get lazy, and at night I just want to sleep. XD

and My fav type of monkey is the capuchin monkey! Like the one at Night at the Museum :)

7.- Something at Random 

TCM: My birthday was last week, April 15th, and I share it with Emma Watson, Emma Thompson and Leonardo Da Vinci. :)

8.- Why did you create the Clock Monkey Blog?

 TCM: I'm a huge One Tree Hill fan, and I don't know how, but I ended up on the Southern Gothic Productions' blog. (SGP's Hilary Burton's production company.) At the time, they had a Blogger blog, and I got curious. I wanted one, and I made one. After a while, I found the doors to the book blogging world, and decided it was a wonderful place, where I'd forever and ever belong!

9.- And The Clock Monkey is now 2 years old!! with 200+ Members!!! and it's almost your Birthday!! how that all of this feel? Special Note: her B-day just passed. but when I send her the interview it wasn't so... yeah)
TCM: IT IS AWESOME! I truly can't believe I've been blogging for two years, it's been amazing. Sometimes it feels kinda like a job, because you've got all this people wanting to work with you (many of those get scared by the fact that I live so far away), and you've got so much planning to do, you've got to know what your readers want from you, but also, you want to have your own voice. It's hard, but I've made so many friends, people whom I've grown to love just as much as the friends I see every day. I wouldn't change that for anything.

10.- And now to be fair, as it is tradition you may describe your blog as you wish, with no letter limit :)TCM: The Clock Monkey is the place where I share my crazy love for literature, be it YA or anything else. It's my place to share my randomness with those of you who care enough to read it. My place to say the things I feel about everyone and everything. I'm inviting you to be a part of that crazy world!

IT'S ALL ABOUT CONTROL

When I was asked to write a post on my experiences in self-publishing, I didn't know where to begin.  This is my fourth attempt.  The last three were dry, boring, and all over the place.  I finally decided to narrow my focus.  Today I want to talk about control; specifically, who has control over your book?

If you go the traditional route, which I did several years ago, you have to sit back and watch control slip through your fingers as other people take your book on as their project.  In some ways this is a good thing.  When I published with Harlequin, I had a team of editors going over my manuscript line by line.  That alone will give you real peace of mind, but you have to give up control.  It isn't just your baby anymore.

On my first book, the title was changed to something that makes me cringe even now.  I tried to offer my editor a list of new titles, but she was set on the one that I hated.  In the end I gave into pressure, half-afraid my book wouldn't be published if I didn't let them have their way.  On the second book, almost every single aspect of it was changed by the editors.  First, they wanted me to change my main character's name to something they liked better.  Then they wanted me to get ride of her family, move her out of town, and basically rewrite everything.  I think the only thing they liked about the story was the idea of it.  To this day the book feels like it is more theirs than mine.

But now I've self-published a book called Vampires Rule, a YA Urban Fantasy with a unique twist on the whole vampire thing.  I have total control over this book, which isn't always a good thing.  There were a few times when I wasn't sure if I should leave something in or take it out.  I asked a friend and she said, "It's your book."  Then one day the truth of it hit home.  It is my book.  I am totally responsible for how it turns out.  Not only do I have to make sure it's edited properly, I have to create the cover, format it as an ebook, and do all the marketing. 

It's been kind of rough to be honest with you.  There have been times when I thought I should forget the whole thing and stay in bed, but the book is available on Smashwords now.  I'm hoping to have it on Amazon someday soon.  The marketing, I think, has been the worst part.  Starting a blog and joining social networking groups like Facebook has left me very little time to write.  Sometimes I feel like I am going up to everyone in the world one person at a time, tapping them on the shoulder and asking, "Would you like to read my book?"

I've given up time to write, sleep, and inner peace, but I have total control over my book.  If you want to know if it was worth it, ask me next year after I've had time to promote it some more.  I'll be able to answer you then.  Hope this was helpful.

For years self-published authors have made a terrible name for themselves by putting out poorly written books with little or no editing.  They paid 'vanity presses' to make their dreams come true and usually ended up with a garage or warehouse full of books no one wanted.  I met one of these people while in college.  She handed me a thing that looked more like a cheap pamplet than a book and told me she had to give them away because no one wanted to buy them.  I swore right then and there that I would NEVER publish a book on my own.

Never say never.  Didn't James Bond say that?  Anyway, I'm in a unique position with the Vampires Rule series.  I had an agent who loved these books.  Stephanie worked for the Trident Media Group, one of the top agencies in New York.  When I landed her, I thought I'd had it made, but Stephanie couldn't find a publisher for these books.  She believed in them and kept trying for a year to find a home for them.  We came so close; it was ridiculous.  An editor at Thomas Nelson wanted to publish them, but her boss said no.  A couple other editors told us they would have published them if we'd sent them two years earlier.  A few didn't like the books, but most editors echoed each other, saying they were afraid to touch them.  The market is saturated with vampire novels and editors feel it is only a matter of time before readers say enough is enough. 

So what do I do?  I can let these books sit on a shelf in cyber-space, gathering dust.  Or I can (gulp) publish them myself, make a few bucks, and hopefully bring a little joy to some readers.  I've already gotten a few nasty comments and cyber-glares from people online, but I am going to hold my head high.  When people ask me if I'm a self-published author, I am going to stand tall, hands on hips and eyes set on the future.  In a voice filled with authority and a touch of awe, I'm going to say, "I am an Indie Writer."

But just as quickly as Cara's life came together, it starts to unravel. A girl goes missing in her town, and everyone is a suspect—including Ethan. Worse still, Zoe starts behaving strangely, and Cara begins to wonder what exactly her friend does all day when she's at school. You're supposed to trust your best friend no matter what, but what if she turns into a total stranger?

My Review:

WOW. Just Wow. I’m in SHOCK. I have GOOSEBUMPS. There are SHIVERS traveling down my spine. This was just plain CREEPY. And HOLLY starts with S and ends it HIT!!! O.O

This is the best creepiest, mysterious and creepy – yes I said creepy twice – Book I’ve ever read in my LIFE! – it’s the first book I read in its genre… who cares! – Now I’ll stop gushing and begin my review.

When I read the summary of Choker I thought I already knew how things were going to end up. Once I actually started reading, I assumed I was in for a very predictable ride, still, I was very interested in seeing how Elizabeth Woods – author of Choker – unraveled the whole situation.

This is how it works :

Warning: Fake spoilers ahead.

First Cara is bullied in her school and they call her Choker because she once choked in the cafeteria. Then her Best Fried Zoe comes along and things start getting weird. Then things get more weird. Cara starts acting like Zoe. Then Cara starts to look like Zoe. And then BAM, she is Zoe. And Cara. And she becomes Dr. Jekill and Mrs. Zoe. In other words: Hulk.

I’m Kidding xDD

Well, half kidding, because when Zoe arrives things do start getting weird, and you just can’t help but think, I know what’s gonna happen, I sooo know! And just when you think you have every single detail sort out, that you know everyone’s cards and the roles their playing and you are just waiting for the next chapter to say what you already know when BAM! No, it is not Dr. Jekill and Mrs. Zoe, but something worse….

There are two options here. Option 1: I am the most naïve person in this planet and completely dumb for not seeing what was coming. Or Option 2: This book was as great as I am saying.

And now I swear to say the truth and nothing but the truth. (or something like that, I’m not so sure how that line goes)

If you are looking for a good book, with a creepy storyline, that takes some wide turns, and sometimes has way to much creepiness, then Choker is for you.

What are Great Books For?

Road Traveling

Well, as you know form my previous post I was on vacation and went to San Francisco, though we went a little crazy and decided to go without a route and just see where we ended up, making stops at random to check weird places and stuff.


Here's a bit of the adventures:

Welcome to The Garlic Word.
 I don't know what town it was but everything had to do with Garlic, there was a place called Garlic World! it was crazy! even the hotel I stayed in had a Garlic as Logo! there was also a place called Disneyana.... it was a flee market...  this was the second town I stayed in and the first one that actually had WiFi, Thank Garlic!!!


PS: the reception smelled of Garlic, heavily. The sheets smelled of Garlic. I smelled of Garlic. Iuk.


The Hearst Castle

next stop was Hearst Castle, which was IMPRESIVE! I recomend you guys to Google this castle to know for info, I'll give the basics. A guy wanted a castle. He built it. ^^, not much info but that's the 101 basic. still Google it! it's worth it!

Anyways, the thing was amazing, the way everything was constructed and the Pool! gosh, I had never seen such pool! or pools, there are two but, the one on the outside was the cherry on top of the cake, I don't have photos of it on my Ipod so I'll have to upload them later from mi camera.

Next Stop:


The Winchester Mystery House.

Creepy, the whole house and story is creepy. The home of William Winchester, creator of the repeating rifle. When he died, her wife, Sarah Winchester, though the ghost of all the people that had been killed with the weapon created by her husbad where after her and the only way of stopping them was by building, and never stopping.

So yeah, the house is beautiful, but completley bizarre, with staircases leading to the ceiling and doors leading to the nothing or to a wall, she was just obsessed with constructing, no matter if it didn't made sense.... and you can find the numbre 13 in almost everyhting, creepy right?

A must see. Really cool :D!

Finally arrived...

after finally getting to San Francisco we go to see the Golden Bridge immediately. To our luck, it was completely covered by fog. We couldn't see anything. Dang it.

we stayed there for another two day and, luckily the fog went away by the third day! yay! we got to see the Golden Bridge xD!

Souvenirs 

Wow, they invented the word expensive for San Francisco. I don't even wanna think what the prices are in NY. or London... or maybe I'm just penny-pinching xD

and yeah, I often encountered the hilarious sings of You Break, You Buy. I Break, I Cry.

China Town

Luckily, China Town has cheaper souvenirs :DD!

Food

I basically spend the week living by In-N Out when we where traveling and in San Francisco, at least lunch and dinner, where always: Pizza.





Back Home

All in all, I LOVED my vacations but, there's nothing like home. I never thought I could miss my twin size bed as much as I did, and my dog, and my WiFi, and not eating Pizza....

So Sorry I haven't been posting lately!! I was on vacation and road-traveling all my way to San Francisco and between getting lost and finding Hotels with WiFi I didn't had a chance to stop here as often as I wanted so Sorry! but I am back so, I'll get to work :D!

FBC:   I have always loved reading.  I've been reading since I was very young.  I started reviewing the books I read last year.  I had been wanting to start a book blog for awhile now just could never find the time to set it up.  So when I took a mini vacation I decided it was the perfect time.  I want to share my thoughts on books I have read and ones that I can't wait to read.  I just love talking about authors, books and the fantastic characters that the authors create.

 FBC: I'm a junk food junkie.  My TBR piles of books and e-books is out of control but in a good way.  You never can have to many books!  :)

Do you have anyone that you can discuss books with IRL? Tell us about him/her.

First, IRL mean In Real Life. I had no Idea. Had to ask my friend Yani xD

And yes I do have someone, Her name is Elaine, We both love to read and we both read in English. and since she has no space in her bookshelf for more books she gives them to me and I take care of them. She LOVES vampire, werewolf. angel, pixie, ANY book that has to do with Paranormal Fantasy, and something funny about her, there ALWAYS has to be a hot guy, sometimes that makes it difficult to share our love for books since I'm more Realistic-Fiction fan. She bakes like a Goddess!! specially cookies... they tend to look Horrible xD but they taste like heaven. She's one of the sweetest person I've ever met. She has been with me since Junior High, though we weren't really friend there, we where just in the backlogging on each of out lives. Then High school, and now we are both going to the same University, to study the same. I Love her, and she's Book/reading confident ^^.

As a special comment, there isn't that many people with whom to share my love for books with, so that's why I created my Blog and my Group on YABC. how I met Yani - my Yoda - and some other wonderful people that are also online.

I am reading Choker by Elizabeth Woods, and so far the main character - Cara - its a little weird.... or at least I haven't completely made my mind on her yet. Because in the beginning she seems weak, though after being bullied by years you sorta DO get some low self-esteem, then when Zoe arrives - her BF and it would seem that she's the "Bad Guy" - Cara starts to act strange, a lot like Zoe, which is just twisted. though her self-esteem does improve. and by now Cara has finally stopped acting like Zoe and is starting to see just how crazy and wrong Zoe is. 

Like I said. My mind is not made yet. Can't wait 'till the ending thought! so I can finally decide if I like her or not xD.

Soo can't wait :))

Wonderland!! no doubt, I'd love to visit where Alice went! though I think that one's already inside of me ^^. 

After that one I'd like to go to Selkie Island from Sea Change... An enigmatic and beautiful place. Maybe I could even find a merman ;)

You Have GOT to be kidding me...

There's a Gay Haters club on Goodreads. are you Kidding me???? seriously? SERIOUSLY????

FIRST, what the heck is wrong with being gay???

SECOND. what do they care??? If they don't like it then fine, but then why take their energy and time to talk about their hate on it??

I personally have a gay friend and everyone just hates him and it pisses me off.

Right now I am in total and utter shock by this. That's pure racism

I read a comment arguing that God forbids it. God - being whomever you want him to me, the universe, Buddha, Christ - if God makes us all, then why would he make someone gay, and then forbid him to be a part of his church? It doesn't sound like much of a god does it?

I think that everyone. EVERY SINGLE PERSON is beautiful no matter what they are, Homosexual, Heterosexual, Bisexual even Aliens I'm sure!! This sort off thing just shouldn't happen.

You can agree or disagree with me on this one. But just like in that Club, you now where I stand.

Jamie's Top Ten Books She Wants To See Made Into Movies

I know it's not Tuesday but I have just GOT to participate on this one!!! as you know, I am an aspiring writer but, have I told you I am also an aspiring Director? well yes. I am actually going to study that. Well, not really, I'm gonna study Digital Graphic Design, - because Movie Director as a career here does not exist :// - but then I'll go on and do my master degree in Direction - it is possible. and so here are the list of books I hope one day to see become movies and others I plan do direct myself :DD!   (Most of the Books Listed have already been reviewed so, check them out!)

1.- Th1rteen R3asons Why: OMG. This book made such and Impression on me. I swore to myself I would never read it again and that I would never read another books with someone dead or about to die in it xDD!. I broke both rules. I Plan to Direct/Produce the movie of this book some day. If someone beats me then ok. At least I'll bring the Coffee! I will be involved :DD

2.- Delirium: I really want to see this Book come to life!! and I soo, soo, SOOO hope I can one day do it

3.- White Witch Pond: I haven't finished reading this book but, Oh boy, I already have TONS of Ideas as to how to make this one a GREAT movie, or short film. Great Story :DD

4.- Choker: I would like to see this book become a movie. I'd LOVE to also direct it, I imagine it directed to the Catherine Hardwicke style.

5.- Across The Universe - such great book!! It would be a LONG movie, but I would definitely like to see it in the big screen! not directed by me though

6.- If I Stay: such a beautiful Book, luckily this one IS going to become a movie :D!

7.-You Wish: This one would be a VERY funny movie :D

8.- Clockwork Angel: they may be making The Mortal Instruments into a movie, but I just though this book was better. FAR more better... according to me of course ;)

9.- Hush Hush: dark, sexy, Patch..... Movie.... do I need to add more?

10.- I ran out of books here xD... umm.... my last pick would be.... Intertwined though It would be hard to make that one a movie.

Mission To Read is one of those blogs you just know is meant for success. Everything is so beautifully done! you can definitely tell that Rie spends a lot of time on it and definitely pours her heart and soul in it. I checked it a few weeks ago and was back for another visit and I was in awe to see just how much it had changed. Just when I thought it could not get any better. And Rie has a warning of "constant change" in her About Me. Keep it up Rie!

1.- In between writing and reading, what do you like to do?  
Mission To Read: I don't have a ton more hobbies as I'm busy being a full-time college student and a wife, but I love to do domestic-y things. Sewing, scrapbooking, and such.

2.-Convince me to join your blog Twitter style. 140 letter or less. Go!
MTR: Fairies, mermaids, and vampires, oh my!

3.-A color, a flower and a game. 
MTR:Pink,Blue. Tulip. Red Dead Redemption

4.-You have now a mission to let the world know about a certain book. Which one is it?
MTR:This changes weekly. Currently Vespertine by Saundra Mitchell

5.-Which is Your Missions to Read?
MTR:The Gathering by Kelley Armstrong

6.-And as for non-book related missions?
MTR:To graduate already! I've been in college since I was 15 (concurrent enrollment). I'm almost 24. A decade in college is simply too long.

7.- How did Mission To Read Started?
MTR:I have no one IRL to talk books with. My husband makes fun of my reading habits, and my best friend has never read a book (shame I know). That leaves all you lovely people to share with!

8.- and to be fair, you can give us a no-limit-on-the-letters description of you blog
MTR:I review books with hot supernatural boys and then drool over them. I interview awesome authors, and mostly talk about books I love!
