Summary:
Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper is cynical and loyal, and she doesn’t think she’s the prettiest of her friends by a long shot. She’s also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush. In fact, Bianca hates him. And when he nicknames her “the Duff,” she throws her Coke in his face.
But things aren’t so great at home right now, and Bianca is desperate for a distraction. She ends up kissing Wesley. Worse, she likes it. Eager for escape, Bianca throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with him. Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out Wesley isn’t such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she’s falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone.

My Review:
Don't Hold Back.
And that is exactly what I loved about this book. I'm not sure if you guys have encountered or noticed this, but sometimes in the romantic aspects of abook, or some heavy situations or when there's a lot of action and violence, it feels like the author is holding back. The characters simply won't go too far. And I recent this, big time. I've been through this with a lot of books and it's really frustrating. The DUFF was not one of those books, in fact, I think Bianca - main character - made many good choices and many bad ones, but she did them all with conviction. She was a bold and straightforward character. She went into the bitchy side at times, but she manages to control her character towards the end.
Wesley was a really fun character (and hot, and hot, Oh and hot!). He didn't mind being used at all, and was always available for Bianca. Granted, he was a big jerk at times, like when he told Bianca she was the DUFF - Designated Ugly Fat Friend. Ouch. This label really dances along Bianca's mind, but she refuses to let it get to her. And even though it did hurt, she has other problems to worry about at home and with her friends. She doesn't believe they'll be to hard to deal with, especially now that she has her boy toy; but, you know, things don't always work out as we had planned...
Bianca is in for a really interesting senior year, that's for sure. I Loved Bianca's head. Her thoughts, her humor, her sarcasm, everything. The book was a lighthearted read, but it sill touched deep subjects and was overall a really honest story.
Loved it! A Must Read! Because we're all Duffies some times :P
Lots of Thanks for Jennifer for recommending it to me! ♥

I read her new book A Midsummer's Nightmare and I LOVED it! I loved that she didn't hold back. Whitley was such a mess, she drank a lot, cussed a lot, messed around a little too much and I loved her because she felt real. I really want to read this book and Shut Out.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!! Honestly one of my all time favorites!! After I read it last year in January, I ended up rereading it like a week later! It was just soooo good!! :)
ReplyDeleteHer other books are really great too!! LOVED them!!
